According to Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce,

As bad as this may sound in this format of statistics, online shopping is currently growing more than four times the rate of offline retail. According to the full report from the U.S. Census Bureau (at http://www.census.gov/mrts/www/data/html/08Q1.html), “the first quarter of 2008 e-commerce estimate increased 13.4 percent from the first quarter of 2007 while total retail sales increased 3.7 percent”. There is no question that ecommerce is only continuing to grow at record rates.
